The ICOS Italy network consists of 16 stations, of which nine are ecosystem, four ocean and three atmosphere stations. ICOS Italy also manages the Ecosystem Thematic Centre of ICOS.
ICOS Italy ecosystem stations cover the most typical land types in Italy: different type of forests, grasslands, croplands and shrublands. Atmosphere stations are located in northern Italy, e.g. at the Alps, and at the island of Lampedusa in the Mediterranean Sea. Ocean stations are located at the Adriatic Sea and at the Ligurian Sea.
ICOS Italy is managed by the Joint Research Unit with collaboration of 15 universities and institutes: Energy and Sustainable Economic Development (ENEA), Italian Research Council (CNR), Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), University of Tuscia (UNITUS), Council for Agricultural Research and the Analysis of the Agrarian Economy (CREA), Italian National Agency for New Technologies (ENEA), Agenzia regionale protezione ambiente (ARPA), University of Udine, the Edmund Mach Foundation, Catholic University of Sacred Heart, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, University of Sassari, University of Padova, University of Genoa, National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS), and Autonomous Province of Bolzano.
