The Integrated Carbon Observation System, ICOS ERIC, is a European Research Infrastructure Consortium with 16 member countries. ICOS produces standardised data on greenhouse gases, which is essential in understanding and mitigating climate change. Finland is the statuary seat of ICOS ERIC. The Head Office is based in Helsinki. It coordinates the operational activities, administers the finances, coordinates international cooperation and communications.
ICOS communications team promotes ICOS data and services for a variety of scientific and societal users and other stakeholders. Additionally, we participate in EU-funded projects where we communicate and promote project results. Marketing and Communications Specialist (Officer)
You are an experienced professional and you will work in the ICOS Communications team of four persons, and report to the Head of Communications at ICOS. In this role, you will:
- Implement and coordinate project communications plans and actions
- Promote ICOS and project results in a variety of channels, including but not limited to social media, content and digital marketing, websites, and events.
- Produce and distribute ICOS and project marketing and communications materials, eg. videos, graphics, texts or printed materials, both hands-on and together with agencies.
- Coordinate and participate in communications or promotion campaigns, or events and their communications
- Participate in online development projects, e.g. related to ICOS website renewal, ICOS photo and asset management system, or project websites
- Participate in writing project reports
The role can be somewhat adjusted according to the competencies and interests of the selected person.

This a full-time, fixed-term position until June 31st 2027. There is a possibility to extend the contract, depending on availability of external project funding. The salary is around 3800-4200 euros, related to the experience of the selected person. There is a six-month trial period. ICOS ERIC is an equal opportunity employer.
The position is located in the ICOS Head Office in Helsinki, Finland. We have a hybrid way of working; usually we work in the office in Kumpula on a weekly basis. Short periods of remote work (in another EU country) are possible. A work permit in an EU country is required to be considered. The work requires some travelling within the EU-countries, a few times a year.
To succeed in this role
A successful candidate should hold a university degree in a relevant field (for example communications, marketing, business, environmental science) and have at least 6 years of experience in marketing or communications roles.
The selected person needs to have good project communications skills, and a proven ability to produce both written and visual content and materials. Graphic design and image processing skills are an advantage. The person must be able to coordinate marketing material production, communications campaigns and small projects. Ability to write report text is necessary in this role. We seek a versatile, digitally savvy person with competencies in digital marketing, particularly in content marketing, and in general in web content creation and online platforms. Skills in social media content production and tools are also necessary. Experience in event organizing and promotion is an advantage.
The person needs good skills on MS Office, including PowerPoint and Excel, as well as in Adobe and content management systems. The person must be fluent in written and spoken English. Knowledge of Finnish is useful, while not absolutely necessary.
A person thriving in ICOS is self-directed, versatile and hands-on communications professional with strong collaboration skills and ability to navigate in international networks. The person can grasp complex concepts and is able to turn them to compelling content in a timely manner. Experience in working with scientists or with European Union funded (e.g. Horizon) projects are advantages.
