The ICOS Summer School on greenhouse gases gathers MSc students, PhD candidates, postdoctoral researchers and staff from research stations to learn about the carbon cycle and climate change relevant to ICOS. The typical Summer School programme includes lectures on measurement techniques and practical work on data management and modelling.
Historically, ICOS Summer Schools have been held every other year. Now as part of the Horizon Europe project New Users for a Better ICOS (NUBICOS), ICOS Summer Schools are being held annually for the next few years.
The most recent 8th ICOS Summer School took place in May 2025 in Hyytiälä, Finland.
The next ICOS Summer School is currently planned to take place at 18-28 January 2027, so will actually be an ICOS Winter School, the 2nd winter edition after the one in 2021. The definitive announcement and registration of applications will be in June 2026, and notices of selection in September 2026. We will have place for about 35 students from master students to post-docs, also including technicians and scientists already working in ICOS. Candidates from ICOS member countries or candidate countries are preferred, but we always reserve some places for other students.
