Greetings from the Project Manager
As we bring the ICOS Cities project to a close, I want to extend my deepest gratitude to all of you who made this extraordinary journey possible.
What began as an exceptionally ambitious effort—spanning scientific disciplines, engaging diverse communities, collaborating with city administrations, and venturing into uncharted territories of urban carbon research—has grown into a collective achievement we can all be proud of.
While we did not accomplish every goal exactly as planned, we often exceeded our expectations, advancing our understanding of the urban carbon cycle, improving how we observe and evaluate climate action plans, and strengthening connections between science, policy, and the public.
Together, we created valuable tools and services, launched a data portal, developed a multilingual school module. We have improved emission inventories, in-situ observations, and models, built partnerships between researchers and city leaders, reached national audiences through television, radio, and print, and published 40 peer-reviewed papers—with more still to come.
I cannot list all the things we have achieved; however this project has demonstrated the power of collaboration and curiosity, and I am profoundly thankful for the dedication each of you brought to it. A heartfelt thank you to everyone for turning ICOS Cities into a true success story.
