A massive fire broke out at University of Tuscia in Viterbo, Italy, on 4th June 2025, destroying a building at the Agricultural and Forestry Faculty. Staff, students and faculty were evacuated from the premises and there are no known casualties at this point.
In tackling the blaze, the local fire department disconnected electricity and network connections. As a result, the ICOS Ecosystem Thematic Centre (ETC) portal was temporarily offline.
Now according to Dario Papale, Director of ICOS ETC, "the connection is re-established and the ETC system is again running smoothly."
The University of Tuscia is one of the host institutes of ICOS ETC.
