ICOS United Kingdom

The ICOS United Kingdom network, ICOS UK, consists of four stations, of which one is an Ocean station, two are Atmosphere stations and one is an Ecosystem station. ICOS UK also co-coordinates the Ocean Thematic Centre of ICOS.

With its atmosphere stations, ICOS UK is able to determine the entire greenhouse gas budget of the UK and to quantify the impact of urban landscapes on this budget. ICOS UK measures in the major ecosystem types that have a significant impact on natural and human-caused greenhouse gas cycling: forests, peatlands and grasslands. The Auchencorth Moss station is part of a sensitive peatland ecosystem in central southern Scotland and it is valuable monitoring location for indicating environmental change.

ICOS UK is formed by the following institutes: Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, MET Office, National Centre for Atmospheric Science, National Oceanography Centre (NOC) Southampton, University of Bristol, University of Exeter (UoE) and University of East Anglia.
