Accessibility Statement
The Integrated Carbon Observation System (ICOS) European Research Infrastructure Consortium (ERIC) is committed to making its websites accessible, in accordance with Finland's Act on the Provision of Digital Services (available in Finnish and Swedish).
This accessibility statement applies to all websites within the primary ICOS domain, icos-cp.eu, and does not apply to the websites of national ICOS organisations or the thematic centres.
Compliance status
This website is partially compliant with WCAG 2.2 Level A and AA criteria, due to the issues and exemptions below.
Non-accessible content
Known issues
There are some currently known issues that are expected to be fixed as time and resources allow, and are documented below. The relevant WCAG criteria are indicated after each issue.
- Some images do not have alternative text content available. (WCAG 1.1.1)
- Some videos are not accessible due to one or more of the following issues:
- Video-only content lacks audio or text descriptions. (WCAG 1.2.1)
- Video lacks captions entirely. (WCAG 1.2.2)
- Video has auto-generated captions that are not fully correct. (WCAG 1.2.2)
- Video has audio content in a language other than English, and no transcript is provided. (WCAG 1.2.3)
- The main navigation menu cannot be fully navigated using the keyboard. Note that each main heading links to a landing page containing the equivalent content, so all content can be reached, but the experience is not equivalent. (WCAG 2.1.1)
- Some images are linked without having appropriate context or detailed alternative text. (WCAG 2.4.4)
- Some content is translated and available in multiple languages. While the text itself is appropriately annotated, the headings for this content lack the language attribute. (WCAG 3.1.2)
Disproportionate burden
While ICOS ERIC strives to have all of its content accessible to all, some accessibility issues pose a "disproportionate burden" to correct and make accessible.
- Some data tools, for example the Forecast of airmass backtrajectories at ICOS stations and beyond, feature generated, video-only content updated daily; due to the daily updates, it is not possible to provide a non-visual alternative for this tool. (WCAG 1.2.1)
- Some videos lack audio descriptions for text-content included in the video. (WCAG 1.2.3)
- Interactive maps, for example the ICOS Station Map, can be entered with the keyboard but the functionality is not described sufficiently or works inconsistently. These maps also lack a text version for screen readers. (WCAG 1.1.1, WCAG 2.1.1, WCAG 2.4.3)
Content outside the scope of legislation
There is also content on our website that falls outside the scope of existing legislation:
- files published before 23 September 2018
- live video or audio broadcasts that are not recorded for storage or publication
- video recordings published before 23 September 2020
Preparation of this accessibility statement
This statement was prepared on 27 March 2025.
This statement is based on a self-assessment carried out by ICOS technical staff, using a mixture of manual and automatic assessment methods.
