ICOS Italy

The ICOS Italy network consists of 25 stations, of which 15 are Ecosystem, 5 Ocean and 5 are Atmosphere stations. ICOS Italy also hosts the Ecosystem Thematic Centre (ETC) together with ICOS Belgium and ICOS France.

Within the Italian network is the Lampedusa Integrated Observatory, the only station in the entire network that simultaneously collects data from all three domains.

ICOS Italy Ecosystem stations cover the most typical land types in Italy: different type of forests, grasslands, croplands and shrublands. Atmosphere stations are located in northern Italy, e.g. at the Alps, and at the island of Lampedusa in the Mediterranean Sea. Ocean stations are located at the Adriatic Sea and at the Ligurian Sea.

ICOS Italy is managed by the Joint Research Unit with collaboration of 17 universities and institutes: Italian Research Council (CNR), Euro-Mediterranean Center on Climate Change (CMCC), University of Tuscia (UNITUS), Council for Agricultural Research and the Analysis of the Agrarian Economy (CREA), Italian National Agency for New Technologies (ENEA), Agenzia regionale protezione ambiente (ARPA), University of Udine, Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, University of Sassari, University of Padova, University of Genoa, National Institute of Oceanography and Applied Geophysics (OGS), Autonomous Province of Bolzano, Edmund Mach Foundation (FEM), Brescia University - Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, Energy System Research – RSE S.p.A and University of Chieti-Pescara "G. d’Annunzio".
