Public Transport Options

From Helsinki Airport (Helsinki-Vantaa) to the University of Helsinki Main Building:

  • Train: The Ring Rail Line (I and P trains) connects Helsinki Airport to the city centre. The journey to Helsinki Central Railway Station takes approximately 30 minutes. From there, the University Main Building is a short walk.
  • Bus: Several bus lines operate between the airport and city centre. The Finnair City Bus and HSL bus 600 are common options, with travel times around 40–50 minutes. 

From Helsinki Central Railway Station to the University of Helsinki Main Building:

  • Walking: The University Main Building is approximately 500 metres from the Central Railway Station, making it easily accessible on foot.
  • Tram: Multiple tram lines serve the area between the station and the university. Trams 3, 6, and 9 are among those that can be used, depending on the exact starting point.

Ferry connections to Helsinki

From Stockholm:

Ferries between Stockholm and Helsinki are operated by companies such as Viking Line and Tallink Silja Line. These overnight services typically depart in the early evening and arrive the following morning.  

From Tallinn:

The Tallinn–Helsinki ferry route is one of the busiest in the Baltic Sea region, with multiple daily departures. Operators include Tallink, Viking Line, and Eckerö Line. The journey takes approximately 2 to 2.5 hours. 

Onward travel from Stockholm and Tallinn

Onward train connections from Stockholm:

Stockholm serves as a major hub for train travel in Scandinavia and offers connections to various European destinations. Train operators like SJ and Snälltåget provide services from Stockholm to cities such as Copenhagen, Hamburg, and Berlin. For instance, Snälltåget operates a night train between Stockholm and Berlin, passing through Malmö and Hamburg, primarily during the summer months

Onward connections from Tallinn:

Tallinn hosts a variety of long-distance bus routes to major Central and Eastern European cities. Routes are operated by firms including Ecoline, Flixbus and Luxexpress. Train travel from Tallinn leaving Estonia can involve changing trains at different border points depending on the destination.
