Recorded webinars from ICOS and projects

13 Jul 2026

ICOS coordinates and participates in European and global projects that advance current and future science, facilitate technological developments and inform climate policy. Several of these projects have recently hosted webinars that are now available as recordings. Below is a selection that may be useful for members of the ICOS community.

ICOS Talks by NUBICOS

ICOS Talks is a series of online presentations and discussions by scientists, for scientists. The talks, organised within the NUBICOS project, highlight current greenhouse gas research supported by ICOS data, with each presentation followed by a Q&A session and discussion.

The 2026 series ran from March to July and included the following talks:

  • March: Constraining European fossil fuel emissions using atmospheric ¹⁴CO₂ observations
Samuel Hammer, Head of the ICOS Central Radiocarbon Laboratory
  • April: Reconciling the carbon balance of managed boreal forests using integrated bottom-up and top-down approaches
Matthias Peichl, Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences
  • May: The ICOS Curve: A picture is worth a thousand words
    Alex Vermeulen, ICOS Carbon Portal
& Remote sensing of the land biosphere to support quantification of carbon emissions and removals
Philippe Ciais, LSCE, and Marko Scholze, Lund University
This edition was organised by the AVENGERS, EYE-CLIMA and PARIS projects.
  • June: The ICOS OTC pCO₂ instrument intercomparison
    Tobias Steinhoff, GEOMAR
  • July: Atmospheric measurements and inverse modelling to support national greenhouse gas emissions reporting
Anita Ganesan, University of Bristol (recording to be published in August).

Recordings of the talks are available on the ICOS Talks webpage

GEORGE webinars: Marine Research Infrastructure data practices, from data collection to access

In May and June 2026, the GEORGE project hosted a three-part webinar series on data practices within EMSO, Euro-Argo and ICOS.Each session focused on one Research Infrastructure, providing an overview of how its data are produced, processed, stored and made accessible. The webinars also included practical exercises and detailed guidance on navigating the respective data portals, using data-processing tools and addressing common challenges.

The webinar hosted by ICOS covered:

  1. The ICOS mission and its benefits
  2. How to become an ICOS station
  3. How the labelling process ensures high-quality ICOS data
  4. An overview of the ICOS data flow
  5. Processing data using QuinCe
  6. Data management and interoperability

IRISCC webinars: Discover the IRISCC Research Infrastructures

IRISCC has produced a seven-part webinar series introducing the 14 Research Infrastructures participating in the project. Each session presents two Research Infrastructures and provides an accessible overview of:

  • the Research Infrastructures within IRISCC
  • the services, facilities and data they provide
  • how they support users in addressing climate change risks across different domains

The series is intended to help researchers, practitioners and other stakeholders understand how the IRISCC Research Infrastructures can support work on complex climate-related challenges.

Watch the session featuring ICOS.

IRISCC also produces various resources for researchers, institutions, and stakeholders to better equip them to tackle climate change risks. Access more training resources.

Explore previous webinars and recorded workshops

Further webinars and recorded workshops from previous years are also available through the ICOS website.

These include a series of practical data-processing webinars designed to help users find, preview and work with ICOS data. The sessions begin with an introduction to ICOS web services and gradually progress from finding data objects and creating simple visualisations to more advanced data-science applications.
