Climate change
Climate change is one the biggest challenges facing humankind. The warming is a consequence of increased greenhouse gases in the atmosphere caused mostly by human activities, but also nature’s own processes. Concentrations of carbon dioxide (CO₂), methane (CH₄), and nitrous oxide (N₂O) have increased to levels unprecedented in at least 800,000 years.
Climate change is an existential challenge to life on Earth. To predict and mitigate climate change, we need long-term and standardised information on carbon sinks and sources. It is essential to take actions globally to limit the temperature increase below the 1.5C limit set in the Paris Agreement.
Greenhouse gases
The greenhouse effect is a natural process that has been exacerbated by human activities that increase the concentrations of natural and synthetic greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. This enhances the greenhouse effect and leads to climate change.
Emission reduction
Human activities are the major contributor to the increasing greenhouse gas emissions. Actions need to be taken on every level to reduce the emissions.
